About Us

We’re the team behind KitBash3D and Greyscalegorilla, two brands united by one mission: to empower 3D artists to bring their ideas to life.

With two decades of combined experience, we’ve helped creators across film, games, and digital media tell their stories and build their worlds. Our software tools and 3D assets have been trusted by artists and studios around the globe, from major productions with Marvel, Netflix, and others, to independent creators shaping the future of 3D.

Now, we’ve joined forces to create the next generation of connected tools that simplify workflows, inspire creativity, and put the artist first.

Two brands. One company. For all 3D artists.

Cargo is our unified web and desktop application where tens of thousands of artists discover, organize, and use 3D assets across productions, from indie games to blockbuster films. Cargo spans multiple product lines: an asset browser for discovering content, an asset browser for discovering content, interoperability layers for moving work across 3D software, and workflow plugins that live inside artists' tools. We're a small team doing ambitious work.

Cargo has an established product and design foundation, and we're now expanding into new 0-1 product areas that will define how studios manage and collaborate on 3D work. This role sits at the center of that evolution. We’re at an exciting stage of growth, bringing together passionate people across technology, design, and storytelling to shape the future of 3D creation, and we’d love for you to be part of it.

About the Role

The Hybrid Builder: This isn't a traditional product design role. As our solo Product Designer, you’ll have the autonomy to define the foundational user experience for Cargo’s next chapter. We’re looking for a designer-builder who is as comfortable in the codebase as they are in Figma, someone who views the bridge between design and implementation as an essential part of their creative process.

You’ll carry projects through the entire lifecycle: from a whiteboard sketch to an interactive prototype, and finally to production-quality frontend code. You’ll spend the majority of your time in design (user flows, Figma specs, interaction patterns), but you’ll also ship the React components and CSS polish that turn a good product into one that feels exceptional. By owning this "final mile," you’ll ensure that no detail is lost in translation.

Stewarding the System: You’ll inherit an established design system and lead its evolution, extending patterns to support entirely new product surfaces while keeping the experience cohesive. Much of what we’re building has no clear industry precedent; we need a designer who is energized by that "blank canvas" and who thrives on the challenge of bringing structure to complex, ambiguous problems. You won't just be following a roadmap, you'll be helping us draw it.

We’re building deeply opinionated tools for 3D professionals. We hold a high bar for our craft because our users do, too. We’re looking for someone who wouldn’t have it any other way.

  • Engagement Type: This is a full-time, Independent Contractor opportunity. We are looking for a long-term partner to grow with the team, but the legal relationship will be structured as a contractor agreement.
  • Location: Fully remote (Europe or LATAM).

What You'll Contribute

  • Design:
    • Own end-to-end product design across Cargo's product lines, from helping shape early concepts through detailed interaction design
    • Evolve and extend our established design system in Figma and in code as we expand into new product areas
    • Shape 0-1 product surfaces where no design precedent exists yet, while keeping them cohesive with the broader Cargo experience
    • Iterate rapidly based on user feedback
    • Make opinionated decisions about UX. We'd rather you have a strong point of view and be wrong than play it safe
  • AI-Native Workflow:
    • Use AI as a core part of how you work it is your daily tool for exploration, iteration, prototyping, and learning
    • We expect you to have strong opinions about how AI changes the design and development process, and to push the team's thinking here
    • Leverage AI to punch above your weight: move faster, explore more directions, and produce higher-fidelity work than would be possible through traditional workflows alone
  • Code:
    • Prototype in code, pair ideas with working prototypes to feel it out
    • Ship frontend work in React — components, layouts, polish, animation
    • Own the final-mile quality gap of what truly makes the product feel excellent
    • Contribute to PRs, participate in code review, work inside the codebase daily
  • Craft:
    • Care about the details that most people skip: empty states, loading patterns, error messages, transitions
    • Design QA what ships — catch drift between intent and implementation before users do

What You Bring to the Team

        • Strong product design fundamentals: you can structure complex workflows into clear, usable interfaces
        • Design discernment: You have a documented eye for high-quality craft and can articulate the objective principles behind what makes software feel intuitive and polished.
        • AI-native: You use AI tools daily to accelerate exploration, prototyping, and development, and you’re constantly experimenting with new workflows.
        • Comfort with ambiguity: You are energized by both extending established patterns and inventing new ones from scratch when no precedent exists.
        • Bias toward action: You prioritize shipping and learning over prolonged debate, understanding that real-world feedback is the best data.
        • Working proficiency in React and CSS: You have the technical fluency to contribute to the production codebase and ship high-fidelity frontend work.
        • Figma fluency: you think in components and systems, not one-off screens, maintaining a scalable design language.
        • Experience evolving an existing design system: you know how to add to a living system without breaking what's already there.
        • English fluency: You possess strong professional verbal and written English skills, with the ability to articulate complex design decisions and technical trade-offs to a global team.
        • Time zone & Collaboration alignment: You are based in Europe or Latin America and are able to maintain a consistent daily overlap (typically 4+ hours) with our North American-based team for synchronous collaboration and stand-ups.
        • An eye for fine details: You are observant and precise, catching the "final-mile" details like empty states, transitions, and error handling.
        • Highly accountable: You take end-to-end ownership of your work and believe that individual accountability is the foundation of team success.
        • Appetite for scale-up culture: You are a self-starter who thrives in fast-moving environments and can quickly adapt to shifting product needs.
        • Commitment to continuous growth: You actively seek out new technical and creative challenges and are dedicated to evolving your toolkit as the industry changes.

        Bonus Points

        • Experience designing for creative tools, 3D software, or technical/developer audiences
        • Familiarity with USD, DCCs (Blender, Maya, Unreal), or production pipeline workflows
        • Experience working in small, fast-moving product teams where roles blur

        What We Offer

        • Generous paid time off: Including 12 company holidays and 2 seasonal companywide breaks annually, unlimited PTO, and paid parental leave.
        • $1,000 per year towards professional development
        • Opportunities to work remotely from around the world
        • Exclusive employee-only guest speakers
        • Bi-weekly team building: we call it Fuzzy Friday
        • Opportunities for professional development and career growth as we grow
